Listening and putting things right.

An illustrative complaints process for a fictional private practice.

Make a concern understood.

This page demonstrates how a private dental practice could explain its complaints process. Aveline is fictional, so there is no actual care provider or complaints team here.

Start with the practice team

A real practice should explain who handles concerns and how to contact them. You could say what happened, what you are concerned about and how you would like the matter addressed. Avoid sending health information through an unsecured general form.

Understand the next steps

The team would explain how a concern is acknowledged, reviewed and answered, and what happens if you remain dissatisfied.

Private dental care

Raise a concern with the care provider first. If a complaint about private dental care remains unresolved, the Dental Complaints Service may be able to help. It does not handle NHS care complaints.

NHS-funded dental care in England

Aveline is a wholly private fictional demo. For a complaint about NHS-funded dental care in England, contact the service provider or your local integrated care board (ICB). Choose one of those routes for the same complaint. The NHS complaints guidance explains the options.

Demo contact only

Call and enquiry actions on this website do not send a complaint or contact a real practice. For a concern about actual dental care, contact the provider responsible for that care.
